The end of the school year is fast approaching, and that means end-of-year testing and assessments are upon us. Here is an important reminder, along with some tips for how you can best support your student before they take their end-of-year tests.
Key Reminder: No Personal Technology During Testing or Breaks
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is committed to a fair and equitable testing environment, and we need your help. Please discuss the following information with your student in advance of testing, which takes place from May 28 to June 10.
- Students are not allowed to have or use cell phones or any other electronic recording, listening, scanning, communication or photographic devices – including smart watches or smart glasses – at any time during testing or breaks. ONLY school-issued computers used for online testing are allowed during testing sessions.
- If a student is observed to have one in their possession, the student must be dismissed from the testing session, and their test will be reported as a “misadministration.” The electronic device will also be searched, and any test content will be deleted.
- Prior to testing, students will sign a form acknowledging that cell phones and any other electronic recording, listening, scanning, communication or photographic devices are not permitted during testing and that there will be consequences for failing to follow this requirement.
Please understand that any student who violates this policy will be required to retake the entire test on a date to be determined and may face disciplinary action per the Student Code of Conduct.
You don't need to do any late-night cramming sessions with your child. The best support you can give happens right at home, the evening before and the morning of the test:
- Prioritize Sleep: Ensure your child gets a full night’s sleep (aim for 8–10 hours). A well-rested brain thinks much more clearly!
- Fuel Up: Send them off with a hearty, protein-rich breakfast, as snacks are not allowed during testing. If your child usually eats breakfast at school, please ensure they arrive on time so they don't have to rush.
- Arrive on Time: Testing begins promptly. Arriving a few minutes early helps your child settle in without feeling rushed or stressed. Be on time for the bus or arrive early for the carpool line.
- Keep it Positive: Send them out the door with a hug and words of encouragement. Remind them that you are proud of their effort, no matter what.
- Dress in Layers: Give them a sweatshirt they can easily take on and off depending on how hot or cool the room is.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools is confident your student can achieve their personal best on end-of-year testing. Additionally, please be on the lookout for additional testing information from your child’s individual school.
Thank you again for your support of your student and all students of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
